Will TikTok be closed in 2022?

It seems that TikTok is in trouble. We tell you everything we know about the closure of Tik Tok in 2022.

Video-sharing social networking service  TikTok took the internet by storm, giving users a platform to showcase their creativity through a  short  15-second video. Beating popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube, the app became the most downloaded app in the US, as of September 2018.

What do we know about the closure of Tik Tok in 2022?

And then rumors spread like wildfire that  TikTok was taking its last breath and shutting down on October 26 (2018). As soon as the matter raged, the app’s official Twitter handle announced that they were not saying goodbye and flatly denied the rumors.

TikTok’s popularity story didn’t end there. Recently, a  report  from App Annie ranked TikTok seventh among the top 10 most downloaded apps of the decade, including names like Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Skype, and others.

Cut to now. A few weeks later, user inquiries about whether TikTok will be shut down in 2020 once again started to surface. But why now all of a sudden? After all, there is no smoke without fire.

The US military has banned TikTok

A few weeks ago, it came to light that the US Navy has banned  TikTok on government-issued mobile devices, calling it a cybersecurity threat. After an investigation by US intelligence officials, last month (December 2019), the military initially advised soldiers not to use the app, after which they banned the app.

Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Robin Ochoa reportedly shared that the app ”  is considered a cyber threat  ” and will not be allowed ”  on government phones  .” That is, using the application on personal phones should not be a problem for army personnel.

Coincidentally, since news of the US military’s ban on the app came to light, inquiries about ‘Tik Tok shutting down for real’ began to surface. But as far as we can see, there is still no official confirmation about the closure of the application.

The official channels or social media handles of the app have not yet spoken or addressed the most recent shutdown rumors, like how they addressed them in 2018. Considering the popularity of the app, we doubt it will go away anytime soon.

Until TikTok officially confirms the shutdown rumors, it’s safe to assume that the popular Chinese social media app isn’t going anywhere. Rest assured, we will keep a tab on all official sources to share with you the official statement if one comes at all. Until then, happy TikToking!
