What Are Single-use Disposable Vapes or Pods?
The growing tendency to abandon the bad habit of smoking has made millions of users around the planet choose to vape as a healthier option, either as an intermediate step to quitting smoking or as an alternative to consumption.
This new consumer paradigm has made companies in the sector create new products to vaporize e-liquids that are attractive to the consumer. In this sense, single-use pods are sweeping, and their consumption among users does not stop growing.
These devices are nothing more than NON-rechargeable electronic cigarettes that offer limited uses (usually from 600 to 2000 puffs). Once the e-liquid is finished (the 600 puffs usually contain 2ml), they are useless and therefore end up in the trash, in the best of cases.
After years of research on vaping and other electronic devices, surprise: these can NOT be recharged. How is this understood? We will investigate this phenomenon below.
Why are single-use vapers taking consumers by storm?
A priori, it seems illogical that users could prefer a disposable product over one of higher quality and durability. In addition, there are disposable cartridges (which already generate waste but are easy to recycle). It does not fit us in the head how users can be discarding practically a battery per week (even more in regular users), thus spending more money and causing a true environmental disaster.
However, the success of single-use e-cigarettes is only increasing, so it is worth looking at what factors contribute to this consumption trend. What reasons may be driving the consumption of single-use vapers?
A product ready to consume from the first moment
We live in the era of immediacy, we want it all, and we want it now! In this sense, these disposable e-cigarettes may have seduced a considerable group of vapers because they are ready to use as soon as they are purchased. You have to open the package and inhale through the device.
However, there are multiple models of rechargeable vape pens whose implementation, in reality, does not involve more complications than filling the e-liquid in the tank and charging the battery. While these gadgets aren’t ready to go right out of the box, this process is really quick and easy (we’re talking about spending 30 seconds refilling ).
For this reason, it is worth considering the repercussions that the convenience of single-use ones entails since they represent a much higher amount of polluting materials that cannot be recycled, compared to rechargeable ones.
A product that is perceived as cheaper (although it is not)
Another possible factor that has made this type of device popular among young people is that they are slightly cheaper (a priori) than rechargeable ones. However, as the popular proverb says, “cheap is expensive”, since the cost of these vape pens is around 10 euros and offers about 600 puffs, that is, about 2 ml of e-liquid contained in each disposable e-cigarette. .
The price difference is abysmal if we compare it with 10 ml at 7.5 euros (5 times more), which can cost an e-liquid to refill refillable vape pens. If we do the math, to obtain those 10 ml of e-liquid, we would have to buy 5 single-use vape pens for 50 euros.
Indeed, rechargeable vaporizers usually have a somewhat higher initial investment (depending mainly on the battery’s capacity). Still, compared to disposable ones, the investment over time is much lower with rechargeable ones.
