Urologist From Nebraska Talks About His Passion For Helping People
Dr. Joe Billmeyer was a pioneer in the field of urology, inventing an effective, non-surgical treatment that helped thousands of people with bladder problems around the world. He grew up in Nebraska and attended college at the University of Iowa, where he majored in biology and minored in chemistry. He went on to graduate with the highest distinction, was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from UIC’s Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago.
Growing Up:
Dr. Billmeyer grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with the highest distinction with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. He was selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He moved to Los Angeles after medical school to do his residency at UCLA Medical Center and has been practicing urology there ever since. Dr. Billmeyer is also an assistant clinical professor of urology at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where he teaches residents about kidney stones and male infertility treatments.
Graduating College:
Billmeyer graduated with the highest distinction and was selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Billmeyer went on to attend medical school at the University of Iowa, graduating with a degree in urology. He completed his residency training at Yale University, where he served as chief resident. He was then a fellow in Urology at Duke University Medical Center before returning to Iowa City as a staff urologist and assistant professor of Urology.
Attending Medical School:
Dr. Billmeyer graduated with the highest distinction from the University of Iowa and was admitted to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He attended and completed medical school at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and earned an M.D. degree in urology, specializing in kidney stones, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, male infertility, and other diseases that affect men’s sexual organs. He trained at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota where he was a fellow in urology surgery with a specialty focus on prostate cancer therapy and treatment. Dr. Billmeyer is currently practicing as a urologist at Menorah Medical Group located in Omaha Nebraska. Dr. Billmeyer sees patients at Menorah Medical Group Monday through Friday morning by appointment only.
Practicing Medicine:
Dr. Billmeyer grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He was selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. For eight years, Dr. Billmeyer practiced medicine at one of the busiest hospitals in New York City. He then moved to Cleveland where he practiced general surgery and urology before completing his fellowship training as a urologist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. As a member of their faculty, he taught medical students and residents about urology as well as served as an attending physician there.
The Future:
Dr. Billmeyer’s goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate care and to be a leader in the field of urology. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing with his two dogs.
