Simple Hacks to Keep Your Wardrobe Organized
Organizing a messy closet or an accessories drawer can be a painful task. Especially when you have been cluttering for years. To save yourself time and a lot of frustration, it is always a better idea to keep your clothes and accessories in an organized manner. You can sort your wardrobe based on the types of clothes like I do. If I purchase Pakistani wedding dresses, I hang them in a separate closet from the ones for my other clothes.
Here are some organization tips for you.
Organizing Clothes
You can start practicing the following for an organized wardrobe:
Declutter by Category
Sort all the clothes that you have in categories. Sifting through your clothes based on their type is perhaps the easiest way to sort your closet. Some of the categories that everyone can sort their clothes in include:
- Pants
- Outwear
- Dresses
- Tops
- Undergarments
I prefer this method of the organization because it is always easy to compare similar clothes when you can see them hanging in one place. This will also make it easy for you to discard pieces of clothing that you have too much of.
Promise yourself to let go of the clothes that you do not wear that often. As it will only add to the clutter. You can always toss these clothes in a pile for donations as well.
Empty and Clean the Closet
When you decide to organize your closet, you should take out everything from it. EVERYTHING. And then start with the decluttering and sorting process. Doing so will also allow you to clean your closet with a cloth. It is essential to do so. Many of the racks become dirty with time. Cleaning them with a cloth will give it a neat look.
Also, you will get to know if there is any other item resting in the wardrobe that you should consider discarding. Throw every item out, and give your closet a deep clean. Do not hesitate to scrub the shelves either. Cleaning is a major part of organizing.
Design Your Closet Space
If you can, design your closet yourself. You are a better judge of all the items that you own. Therefore, you would know better as to how your closet should look like. NO. The common design does not fit everyone. Gone are the days when there was a standard closet design.
If you cannot have a whole ‘makeover’ of your closet. Then it is time for you to put the creative in you to best use. Take note of all your closet’s best features. For example, you might have more vertical space, built-in shelves and a lot of hanging rods. Have a look at your belongings and see how you can organize them accordingly.
You should also work on fixing areas that are of no use to you in your closet. For example, the shelves on the top of it that you cannot even reach. Those shelves have no function but to take extra space.
Coordinating Hangers
Get rid of those wire and neon plastic hangers. Nothing speaks chaos more than them. Invest in matching hangers for your clothes. This helps to limit the visual clutter that can be a pin for your eyes. Using matching hangers will give your closet a streamlined look.
The material of the hangers also matters in this case. Avoid purchasing the easily breakable plastic hangers. Velvet ones would be a better choice. They will be able to hold your clothes without breaking easily.
Stack Thick Items
There is no need for you to hang thick items like jackets, denim, and sweaters. Stack them. This will save you your precious hanging and drawer space that you can use for other things. Because they are sturdy and thick, it is easy to stack these items.
Organizing Accessories
Dresser Drawer
Make the best use of your dresser drawer to organize your jewelry and accessories. Throwing them in the drawer is not an option. Separators are now available in various designs that allow you to store your tiny things in them. In this way, you do not have to worry about your jewelry getting lost or tangling with other stuff.
Box it Up
If keeping the accessories and jewelry in a drawer is not your type, you can always organize it in a box that has tiny compartments. Use a clear glass box to flaunt your prettier pieces. For rest, you can choose any type of boxes.
Perhaps the most difficult part is to organize eastern women’s wear as it comes with a dupatta and trousers in the form of a complete suit. But I saw a neighbor of mine organize them pretty well too. Hence, teaching me that it is not difficult to organize anything if you think out of the box.
