Is Aesthetics the Same as Dermatology?
Dermatologists are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and cure of diseases affecting the skin, hair, nails, scalp, mucous membranes, oral cavity, and other integumentary structures. Dermatologists treat patients with disorders such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, warts, moles, fungal infections, and many others.
Aestheticians are health care professionals that focus on the improvement of appearance through the use of cosmetics, hairstyling, and skincare products. They also provide Aesthetic medicine counseling services to their clients.
Both physicians work together to diagnose, treat, prevent, and improve conditions related to the skin, hair, and nails. However, aestheticians have more training in cosmetic procedures than dermatologists do.
The two fields share some similarities, but they differ greatly in how they approach each problem. For example, dermatologists tend to be concerned with the underlying causes of a condition, while estheticians prefer to concentrate on the outward appearance.
