How To Make Synthetic Diamonds

One of the hardest materials is Diamond which was formed a million years ago in this world. It had been created by geological pressure and extracted from deep mining in the earth.

But now it is also possible to make diamonds in the laboratory. This means scientists have invented the chemicals properties that are the same as natural diamonds.

In this case, there are some methods of making synthetic diamonds in the lab. After researching thoroughly upon this topic, we have narrowed down the ways of creating synthetic diamonds.

What Is A Synthetic Diamond?

A synthetic diamond is a man-made diamond. It has been grown in the laboratory by using optical and physical properties as a natural diamond obtained. It is made by using similar colour and clarity as an organic diamond. That is why it is difficult to detect a synthetic diamond.

The terminology guidelines in the UK defined a synthetic diamond as laboratory-created, laboratory grown, synthetic, and so on.

On the other hand, simulants stones and synthetic diamonds are not similar. It appears like an imitation diamond, but it is not the same.

The Ways Of Making The Synthetic Diamonds

Below we have mentioned the process of making synthetic diamonds. In this case, there are two alternative ways of making lab-grown diamonds.

Forging HPHT cubic presses is the synthetic diamond machine.

1) CVD process, also known as Chemical Vapour Deposition

  • In this process, a thin slice of a diamond is selected. In this case, the slice of a diamond has been taken from an already invented diamond in the laboratory.
  • After that, it is important to thoroughly clean the diamond if any defect has been there because the defective diamond can form inclusion.
  • Then the diamond slice is inoculated into the gas chamber.
  • The chamber will be closed securely so that any gas can’t go out.
  • The chamber is immersed with carbon effluent gas and also heated at the highest temperature.
  • At this step, nitrogen can be added to increase the speed of this process. Although many laboratories of diamond producers avoid this process as it turns yellowish to the diamond.
  • It is required to continually fill the chamber with gases for more than a couple of weeks. It will break down and coat the diamond slice and develop the carat weight.
  • After that, a rough diamond is produced, which seems like a square cube.
  • In this stage, the rough texture diamond is cut by laser precision. Traditional polishing techniques will be required in terms of getting the desired shape.
  • The final stage is CVD diamond will undertake certification. Reviewers like GIA will certify the diamond created by the CVD process based on the colour, clarity, and carat weight of the diamond.

Another process is known as HPHT(High-pressure High temperature)

  • The first step is required for carbon which is a containment cube.
  • The cube will incur the same pressure as a natural diamond face under the surface of the earth.
  • The cube is heated intensely with the help of electric pulses.
  • The pressure and heat cause the carbon to become crystalize
  • The asymmetrical surface of the diamond is cut with the help of laser precision. After that traditional polishing technique gives the diamond desired shape.
  • The HTTP diamond will be undertaken for certification. After that, graders such as GIA will certify the diamond according to the colour, clarity, weight, and other details.

There Are Some Benefits Of Synthetic Diamonds.

Below we have mentioned some of the benefits of synthetic diamonds. It helps from many sites such as economy, pollution and so on.

1) Synthetic Diamonds Are Rich In Quality

One of the most important factors is quality. Generally, we tend to buy diamonds as per their clarity, carat, cut, and so on. In this case, the rich quality diamond has the highest price.

Unfortunately, many organic diamonds have impurities; they might have dirt and pollution as they are mining from under the earth’s surface.

But lab-grown diamonds are totally different; they don’t have these problems. They are basically grown in a much more controlled environment. As a result, those synthetic diamonds end up whiter and brighter than mined diamonds.

2) Synthetic Diamonds Are Comparatively cheaper

If you want to buy mined diamonds, then you have to spend a lot of revenue. In this case, synthetic diamonds are cheaper and reasonable. It is high quality and whitens as a natural diamond.

3) Synthetic Diamonds Are Eco Friendly

The diamonds that are mined from under the surface are not eco-friendly. It increases the risk of soil collision in the future. Sometimes it also happens that local animals, trees, and people have to compromise their lifestyle in terms of diamond mining.

On this site, synthetic diamonds are very feasible and helpful for the environment.

Last Words

Above, we have mentioned some of the ways of making synthetic diamonds and their benefits. There are many synthetic diamond manufacturers, such as James Allen, Clean Origin, etc.

It is recommended to use synthetic diamonds rather than mining diamonds. Synthetic diamonds have many benefits, such as you can get various coloured diamonds, imitating real diamonds at a lesser price, and so on.

Apart from that, it will maintain the glaze like a mining diamond. So what are you waiting for? Go and buy synthetic diamonds to decorate the hands of your loved ones.
