Fortnite for iOS: this is how much Epic Games battle-royal earns every day
Fortnite is definitely the battle-royale video game of the moment. Pending the official release of the Android version, the SensorTower website has published an indicative report of Fortnite‘s earnings on iOS. And they are really crazy numbers, very similar to those made by titles for home consoles.
Epic Games according to the study conducted in recent months by the SensorTower team earns, per day, with the mobile version alone, about 2 million dollars. And doing the math, a month, 60 million enter the coffers of the American software house.
Fortnite, last July 13, was registered by right in the hall of fame of the “Guinness World record”: the game, with the arrival of season five, managed to grind 3 million dollars in just twenty-four hours. An absurd figure, never reached by a mobile game. While during season four he earned 1.2 million dollars a day.
We remind you that the mobile version of Fortnite, the iOS one for now, but it will also be the same for the Android one, has only the real battle mode, or the classic, free-to-play one.
Unfortunately, we too, like most of you, are eagerly awaiting the release of Fortnite for Android. However, from what we understand, the official release could take place in the coming weeks.
Fortnite: huge earnings on PS4, iOS is worth next to nothing in comparison
Fortnite’s real gains come from PS4: in comparison, iOS isn’t worth anything. Here is the data revealed by Epic Games.
Earlier this month, we discovered that the iOS version of Fortnite had allowed Epic Games to earn a whopping 700 million dollars over the two years prior to its removal from the App Store. This is a significant figure, in absolute values, but which pales compared to what Fortnite is able to do on other platforms. In particular, we discover that Epic Games’ battle royale earns incredible figures especially on PS4.
Through the official documents of the Epic vs Apple case, we have the opportunity to discover that between March 2018 and July 2020, 46.8% of Fortnite’s total earnings are derived from the PS4 version. Next, we find the Xbox One version with 27.5%. There is also an 18.7% split between Android, Nintendo Switch and PC. iOS is worth 7% of the game’s total earnings over that period. In other words, via PS4, Epic Unblocked Games world has earned more than six times as much as it has earned from iOS.
Epic Games, Fortnite and PlayStation get along very well
Furthermore, considering 2020 alone, according to Epic Games iOS forecasts it would be worth only 5.8% of the total, compared to 24% for Xbox One and “almost 40%” for PS4. These estimates were shared by David Nikdel – senior programmer at Epic – in a deposition. Babcock – Epic’s CFO until March 2020 – instead stated in another deposition that iOS was always inferior to PS4, “Xbox” (let’s assume he meant Xbox One), Nintendo Switch and PC in terms of monthly earnings.
These figures, in fact, shouldn’t be too surprising. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has said in the past that the iOS version accounts for 10% of total players on a daily basis, within the game’s two-year availability. In essence, the number of Fortnite players on the Apple platform is not all that high and it is not surprising that the earnings are not concentrated on these devices.
Always talking about earnings, it must be remembered that in 2019 Fortnite – according to reports – had earned 1.8 billion dollars. In 2020, Epic Games had forecast a total profit of 3.85 billion dollars. Even if the figures are not related to the same year, they still allow us to understand how much Fortnite counts within Epic: almost half of the profits come from it.
Now, the choice to clash with Apple makes even more sense: the losses for Epic Games are not so significant and, if successful, it would have the opportunity to earn much more in the future, eliminating the percentage required by the platform holder. Let’s not forget that the media “chaos” generated by this move has certainly attracted publicity on Fortnite.
