The Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee has been working to discover the location of an early Spanish encampment in Florida. The encampment was believed to have occurred in the Anhaica area in Tallahassee. In the process, archaeologists have found several lines of evidence that prove the presence of Spanish settlers in the early 16th century. The Florida Department of State’s Bureau of Archaeological Research has been working with the Panhandle Archaeological Society at its Tallahassee branch to locate the site of the encampment.
